The Future!
This evening I'm sitting here typing on my computer and about to publish these words for people all over the world to see. Meanwhile, my dishwasher is cleansing my silverware and my Roomba is vacuuming my floor.
Nobody a generation ago would have even imagined this. My grandparents must have their minds blown daily.
My friends, the future is here.

my grandma was born in the late 1800s. in her lifetime the world went from horse and buggy automobile, airplane and then to space travel, from telegraph to the beginnings of the internet era (she died in the late 1980s at nearly 100). She was there for the advent of moving pictures and victrola recordings, radio and finally television. when she was a child it wasn't uncommon for children to not survive to their 2nd birthday because of childhood illnesses, infections and diseases that are commonly controlled now.
my dad was born in 1922 and has seen much of that evolution as well. my generation will be the first to now know life without television and space travel.
it is rather amazing isn't it?
Sometimes, sitting in traffic, or blogging, or at my desk at work, I think about how incredibly amazing it would be for someone from the past to see the wonders of our lives today. Computers. Cars that travel over 100mph on public roads (not legally, but they do...), computer games that are damn near photorealistic, and yes, even bubble gum ice cream. I think these thoughts and I'm amazed at how far we've come. I can only hope that we can go as far in our lifetimes as our parents and grandparents have in theirs.
And I do so wish I had a picture of you up on the couch, shreiking with joy as your Roomba did it's thing. The way you described it to me sounded like an utterly perfect moment.
