Dinner and Baby Names
Last night I went out to dinner with Mike and his friends Jerry, Justin, Matt, Jim, Evan, and Kathy and Joey along with their baby Gabby. Kathy very considerately offered to not let me hold her baby because she remembered my baby-holding phobia. Thanks Kathy!
Gabby was very cute and personable and I enjoyed observing her from afar. Eventually someone brought up Mike and I having a kid, and we got some odd looks when we mentioned that we had a boy's name picked out already.
The thing is, we really don't have a "baby name" picked out per se. It's more that Mike heard a boys' name that is so awesome, so wonderful, so completely exquisite, that somebody needs to ensure that this name makes it into the next generation. If necessary, that "somebody" will be us.
That name...is Philo. It's pronounced FIE-low. I like it because it's a saint's name, and because it's Greek for the word "love," which is the one thing that not only would I want to give to a child, but I would like that child to give to others.
Mike likes it because it's the name of the inventor of television broadcast...Philo Farnsworth. Well, at least we agree that it's a neat name.
Of course, people shouldn't take any baby-talk from us too seriously, since Mike also mentioned that his biological clock is rapidly ticking, but more for a kitten than a kid. Also, he suggested today that if we ever have a girl baby we name it Awesomeina or Skooty B. Kool. And yes, I had him spell that last one out.
Anyway, it was a fun evening, even if Mike and I had to head home early since I wasn't feeling great. I should have his friends over for dinner sometime, not only because they're nice people, but also because they're more likely to enjoy my cooking than Mike is.

You're welcome ! ;) And working as an elementary school teacher, I hear lots of children's names. So far, you and Mike picked a name I have not heard yet, so it's quite original. And cute, might I add. I hope I wasn't one of the people giving you an odd look last night for having a name picked out. I was curious as to what it was but didn't ask because some people get weird about those things. They are afraid people with steal their precious name.
Also, a get together would be good. Possibly somewhere less stimulating for the kiddo, such as someone's house or apartment. She did a good job, but it's kind of like waiting for a ticking time bomb to explode, so I can't fully enjoy myself with her in public yet.
philo, huh? don't feel too odd, bran and i picked out boy's name 6 years before he was born. we added another middle name when he was born. bran wanted to add in his step-dad's name cuz he loved him so much. we never really did get around to picking out a girl's name. the closest we got was rhiannon, and possibly rowan.
good thing boy was a boy.
Personally, I think girls names are much easier than boys names. I've had a couple names (or combinations of) chosen for a long time. And yes, Im one of those weird people that doesnt like to reveal my faves. I hope I get to use them someday. I hope you do too.
Sorry... but as soon as I heard "Philo," I thought of the crazy inventor guy/space alien in UHF that lives in the television station control room.

Thankfully, no one in young Philo's generation will have seen an obscure 80's movie starring Weird Al--so I'm sure he'd be relatively safe from teasing because of it.
My aunt, years ago, had a doberman named Filo. ;-) I love unique names though. Having an extremely common name (for people my age), it gets boring after a while.
