Screw you, 2007

I must say, so far 2007 has not been a good year. Yesterday Mike was in bed all day recouperating from his cold, and today he took a half-day so we could go to the doctor. The doctor put him on another course of prednisone, plus an antibiotic and more albuterol. While it was nothing huge, I got the impression that Mike's asthma and the cold were more severe than we'd thought.

Mike also got a call from the lead singer of his band today, saying Mike was kicked out. Mike is understandably hurt after all the effort and work he's put in, plus it's uncomfortable that his best friend is still in the band. All in all, though, he's handling it better than me. I've been stomping around all afternoon saying things like, "I hope Dan has a freak accident and breaks both his hands," and "What's Dan's phone number? I want to send him a text message that says, 'I HATE YOU.'"

Then there was Rusty's vet appointment today. They pointed out that now that it was 2007 he's ten years old, which just sounds so old to me. It also means that Cider is twelve. In addition to Rusty's blocked tear ducts, FIV, vomiting, and lovely baldness due to his obsessively licking the fur off his belly, the vet detected some irregular heartbeats. When I asked, "Well, what are some signs I should be looking for that would indicate he's having problems with his heart?" she responded, "Well, sudden death is the big one." Great. So when I come home and find my cat dropped dead I'll know why. She didn't know of anything else I could look for or do.

The year 2007 is only two days old, so it has time to improve. I hope it does.

I was coming here to ask about Mike's appt. Has he considered Advair? I think I've mentioned it before, and I realize he cant just DEMAND he get it, but seriously- it has changed my life (saved my life.) My asthma was very severe and it has made all the difference. Just wanted to put that out there.

I hope the other things get better too. Sorry to hear about the band (was any explanation given? are upright bass player's really that easy to replace??) I hope the kitties do well. Jack has FIV too. Man, you've really been put thru it this year.

Dude! I thought I read this post, but obviously I didn't.

Who's ass would you like me to kick for 'canning' Mike. And I think it's incredibly gallant of them to do it via phone...

I second the ADVAIR advice. Please at least ask for a sample. Or there's another one Mom is on called Spireva.

Ditto with the kitties thing. I love the pictures you post... it comforts me, when I miss Sp1ke.

Hope tomorrow is better for you and M :)

Amen to the Advair. You take it every day and it prevents attacks. Prednisone is a prehistoric drug for asthmatics. Some medical plans prescribe Qvar80 and Serevent as a replacement for Advair. And I think he can demand it.

A few random comments from my medication haze:

Mike's ex-bandmates suck, especially this Dan person. It's customary to put someone on notice and give them a chance before evicting them from a band. Doing it while they're sick is just bad form. He and you have my sincere sympathy.

Prednisone is an evil, evil, drug, but it works. Here's hoping Mike won't be on it long.

Advair did wonderful things for my sister. I'm going to jump on the comment bandwagon for it.

I hope your cats do very well until it's time for them to stop. Sudden is better than long and drawn out IMO.

In the mean time, think happy thoughts! If the year started like this, there's only one place for it to go...up!

I'm all for drug recommendations. Also, at times like this, I find it best to roll my problems up into a katamari and launch them into space. Your five kitties should roll up nicely. And your pummer. I'm tired.
