Snow day phots

Today there were bad snowstorms all along southeastern Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois - right along my commute. I decided to stay home even though my district hadn't called a snow day. They never have snow days, even though every district around them was canceled. Bastards. I emailed one of my teacher friends at work and she said it was a good thing I stayed home - the weather down there was ugly and I never would have made it in. So that leaves me some time to put together a fun-filled (yeah, right) photo entry for you all!

This morning I waited until Mike was gone, and I shoveled our sidewalk. Mike is convinced that I shouldn't shovel anymore, and I agree that shoveling wet snow would be a bad idea. It's too heavy. But this stuff was like pushing around powdered sugar. I went slowly and shoveled our whole portion of the sidewalk. It was still snowing while I did it so the sidewalk isn't completely clear, but I did a pretty good job. Observe!

Here we have Lucky's opinion of higher education. I had my two college diplomas on a shelf in our bedroom, but Lucky knocked them to the floor so he could sit on the shelf instead. Mike piled my diplomas on his nightstand so they wouldn't get stepped on. The shelf is still vacant because Lucky still likes sitting there. Thanks, guys.

I think that Mike shares Lucky's opinion. I put my Certificate of Clinical Competence that I earned from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association on that same shelf. Instead of being proudly displayed it's now just a backdrop for Mike's childhood toy, Baby Doll.

Let's see, what else.

Did I ever tell you that I got curtains for our living room? Not too exciting, I know. We used to have blinds, but I wanted something softer. Mike wasn't sure about them, but I just asked him to see how he felt about them after a week. He agreed to tolerate them for a week, and after the week was up he was asking me if I could find curtains to replace the blinds in the kitchen, too.

Here we have the top of our bookshelves. It contains the crystal candlesticks and clock that Mike and I got for our wedding, two more olive wood candlesticks, and a holder for votive candles. But what's that lurking behind the votives?

What? You don't have a roboraptor protecting your living room?

It's a remote-controlled dinosaur that I got Mike for his birthday a few years back. It's his addition to our living room decor.

Sorry it's so non-exciting. The rest of my day is like that, too. Later on I'm going to brush the snow off of Mike's and my cars, and then if the roads are clear and I can get my car unparked I'll go forage for food. Fun stuff!

  • Baby doll is just up there so none of the cats will damage it.

  • Mike's doll is a tad creepy. Are you sure it actually needs to be displayed?
