My Weekend

Yesterday there was a huge neighborhood-wide rummage near us. Mike and I went to look around. I wanted to hit the ones with kids' items because I was hoping to find some outside toys for P, but instead I found clothes. I was slightly embarrassed to be clothing my kid in someone else's cast-offs, but damn! The deals! Kids grow out of clothes way before they wear them out, so I found some really great things for him.

This jacket and pair of snow pants cost $8. Last year we paid $25 for P's snowsuit, and we still had to buy another one because he outgrew the first one. This one has plenty of room to grow.

I paid $1.25 for this entire lot of shirts, which range in size from 18 mos to 3T.

This is an AquaDoodle that I got for a dollar. If you run a wet brush over it, it leaves a green trail. I've been eager to get him drawing, but he's too young for most crayons or pens. I thought this would be a good middle ground.

Today Mike went to a Brewers game, so I'm alone with P. We took a walk and he played in the sandbox that Mike made for him.

He's napping now, and after lunch we'll probably go to the park.

It's not an eventful weekend, but I still feel so lucky that this is my life.

  • Nothing wrong with getting clothes at a rummage. Most of the time they are barely worn. Gabby wouldn't have half as many clothes if I didn't spend the whole summer rummaging.

  • i loved that i could find used clothes for boy. for his first 4 or 5 years we didn't buy any new clothes other than shoes, socks and a few bits of dress clothing. the rest were either bought used or hand-me-downs from friends whose kids had outgrown the clothes. his first year was in a lot of pink as i have 3 nieces and no nephews. pink really does suit his complexion though he won't wear it. :)

kids clothes are dreadfully priced. it was hard enough buying shoes for extra wide feet for him. having to pay new retail prices for his clothes would've broke us.

  • that sand box is great and what deals on the clothes! There's a round/hexagon little kids crayon out (crayola probably) that is about the size of a little kid's palm and it has round crayon nubs in different colors on the ends. There's also triangular crayons which are easier to hold and don't break quite as easily and pipsqueak markers that are really short and easy to hold. Liam started with all of these. oh and if your sandbox attracts cats or rabbits you can use pea gravel instead of sand and it can be hosed/bleached clean when needed (i hate the cats in our neighborhood but at least I don't have rabbits in my garden!) He is getting so big!
