Eczema

On Friday I'm going to the dermatologist to hopefully take care of my eczema once and for all.

I've only been having eczema outbreaks for the last three years or so. But in that time I haven't had an outbreak that's been so hard to eradicate. Most of the time it clears up very quickly with the use of steroid cream, but this time it's withstood both steroid cream and steroid pills. And even though it started just on my eyelids, it's now on my eyelids, cheeks, neck, lips, leg, and breast. Yeah. I thought eye eczema was the most annoying thing ever. But once I experienced the agony of nipple eczema, I retracted my original statement.

The thing is, I'm horribly self-conscious about my eczema. I don't know why. It's just glorified dry skin. Irritating, yes, but not horrible. Not contagious. Not even as unsightly as acne or cold sores or a mullet haircut. But still, I hate it. I've been avoiding treating my eczema too much this week to make sure the doc has something to look at - I don't want to have to wait two weeks to get an appointment the next time I have an outbreak and I've run out of cream - and I hate it. I can't wait until 4:30 on Friday when I can see him and get something to take care of this.

My only fear is that he'll put me on oral steroids again, and it'll affect Mike's and my trying to conceive. I don't know what I'll do.

Hopefully, though, after Friday I'll get something that will take care of this and it'll be another year or so before my next outbreak. I'm sick of this.

  • There was something on the news last year about adding a cup of bleach to bath water for kids with exzema who were old enough not to swallow water and could dunk their heads and it helped them clear it up. I don't know if they tested this and it worked, but I figured I'd pass on the tidbit so you could look for the story.
