Saturday Project
Today Mike took Little P to a model train show at State Fair Park so I have the morning to myself. After doing some cleaning and some channel surfing I decided to give the sewing machine another shot. I haven't touched it in about three weeks because the sound of small engines, like vacuum cleaners and beard trimmers, freak P out. Loud engine noises, like low-flying planes and fire engines with sirens roaring, just make him look curiously. But small engines turn him into a crying, shaking ball of fear. I don't get it. I think the sewing machine would bother him so I haven't used it much.
As I was bringing it upstairs from the basement I pulled on the thread accidentally, and I had to re-thread the machine. The hardest part was getting the thread around this little metal arm inside the machine. It took about ten minutes to get it around. You can see the arm here.

And here's the slot you have to thread it through. There's not a lot of room to maneuver.

Once I had the machine threaded up I sewed a few lines. I started out a little crooked, but it got better. Sewing on just fleece, instead of fleece and that stretchy t-shirt material, was so much easier. Mike was right - t-shirt material is really hard to sew.

The fleece is stretchy too, so I think that once I start sewing with flannel it'll be even easier because that doesn't stretch at all. I can't wait to start working on my baby blanket project. I have five blankets to make. I hope Mike's in the mood to go to the fabric store this afternoon.

While every piece of fabric content is different, you'll get the hang of it.
This is one of those instances when PRACTICE really does help.
